Welcome to Mr. Cunningham's webpage
Students in the World Geography class are expected to: 1.Come to class every day, prepared to
learn. Grading in the World Geography class is based on successful completion of a series of formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments include (but are not limited to) homework, quizzes, and in-class assignments. These form or frame the basic information the student needs in order to meet the standards in Geography and Social Studies. Summative assessments include (but
are not limited to) research and long term projects in which students are
expected to use their basic skills and knowledge and apply these to a wider
range of information. Summative assignments are tied to the Maine Learning
Results and may be used as part of the Local Assessment System (LAS) to satisfy
graduation requirements under Chapter 127.
A List of Possible Resources for World Geography For General Information on countries in the world, I have found that the Central Intelligence Agency's World Fact Book is one of the best places to begin your search. Just scroll down to a country and click. The U.S. Census Bureau offers a wide range of information on population, economics, and even maps. It's a site worth exploring. The University of Texas at Austin has a great website for finding a variety of current and historical maps, using the Perry-Castenada Library Map Collection. If you just need a map of your hometown or need to directions between two points, I recommend you use either Yahoo's Get Local Map feature or MapQuest. Really cool aerial images as well as topographic maps can be found by going to the Terraserver website and following the directions. For example, if you like you can view Central High School from an airplane. What other roads and landmarks can you see?
